Did I tip wrong?

I was at a friends house and we sent out for a pizza..both of us paid half..but my friend said she had coupons and I gave them to the delivery man..and i automatically gave him a tip..and after my friend was upset with me because I tipped after she gave me a coupon...I told her what has that got to do with a tip..i still tip even if there is a coupon involved or not..but she would not consider my side of the story..was I wrong tipping the delivery of the pizza..when a coupon is involved.?? yeah we got a discouont but that should not mean no tip...or should it?Did I tip wrong?
Tipping was the right thing to do. I AM THE PIZZA GUY! Trust me, we make minimum wage and thats it. It is not true that we make money from the delivery fee, if there is one. I rely on the tips to pay for my classes and books. Tipping is obviously not required, but the truth is we remember who tips and who doesn't and those who don't tip will ALWAYS get their pizza last if there are several homes to deliver to at once. 3$ is the average for me, but the bigger the tip...the more appreciated...and the faster they get their pizza next time.
Of course you still tip the delivery driver, that is how he or she makes their living. They don't get paid off the amount you spend they depend on their tips.Did I tip wrong?
No...people should tip based on the actual value of the meal...or service. Coupon or not.
Actually , since you got it cheaper your tip should have been bigger.Did I tip wrong?
it's ok to tip a delivery guy if you use coupons (i do)
Your friend is too uptight. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS tip. And over-tipping is not bad. And always over tip a pizza guy or gal, most people don't. Remember, you're paying for their gas and gas is expensive.
You were right. It is like using dinner coupons-you should tip the waitress as if the meal was full price.
You did the right thing...lol my hubby gets mad when i tip them more than .50 cents but you know they do it too for tips so i tip very well
You should give at least a 10% tip no matter what.
i woulda gave him a tip
No, the cupon is just applayable to the retail price of the pizza, if you read the tiny print on the cupon you might notice a legend stating %26lt;Tips are not included in this promotion%26gt; You're OK tiping the delivery guy, after all he's earning a living!
Definitely tip. That is how the delivery guy/girl gets paid. The discount is only a guarantee from the owner or company.
no you should stil tip, the coupon was so you could get a little off the pizza but he should still get a tip because gas and such isnt cheap now a days you were right to tip!
Your friend is being silly.

You were right to tip here.
The good thing is that you thought enough about the issue to 'want' to get it both right for your own knowledge and your friendship. Actually, a tipping has nothing to do with a coupon or not. Actually, the tip is for the him servicing the customer. The old adage is if you don't have enough money to tip, then you should not be ordering or eating out. It comes with the territory. You did the right thing by tipping, which I am sure your parents taught you. Good job!

p.s. the tip is calculated on the amount before the discount/coupon. :)
You should tip even if there is a coupon involved. Your tipping for the service of delivery driver. If you look closely to your receipt there usually is a delivery charge. That charge does not go to the driver. Your tip is given to the driver and not the pizza company. So, discount or coupon it doesn't matter. Tip the driver.
i think its great you tipped even with a coupon, i always tip 10% in restaurant if waitress is good, a little more if shes awesome, pizza delivery, i tip either way, as long as hes there in a decent time, warm pizza,he has whole order, i think he deserves it, i think you did right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think that you did the right thing by tipping the pizza guy. He is out and about driving all over the place and a couple extra bucks to help him paying for gas the keeps going up. Nothing wrong with it. Your friend is over reacting over the coupon thing because you were using that to pay for the pizza you were giving him a tip for his time...and if you dont tip and you order pizza again when you guys are hanging out...and he happens to be the pizza guy again...and he remembers you didnt give a tip...he could be a jerk the next time and spit on the pizza or so something crazy...tell your friend how would she like if she was going out and about deliverying pizza and lets say you were short on some rent money and that extra couple of bucks would have made it and sometime cuts you short...or if she was working at like red robbins and she was waiting on people and serving there food and as quickly as she could and she thought she did a good job and when they leave only to see no tip was left...
She is very wrong. You always tip what you would have should there have been no discount. Ask her how she would feel if she delivered pizza for a living. Say she gets 1 dollar for every 10 dollars worth of pizza she delivered as an average. Then the store sends out coupons that are good for a month and all the calls use the coupons and don't tip her anything, even though it was the store, not the person who delivered who issued the coupons. She'd WANT to get stiffed? I doubt it!
i don't know why your friend is upset, but it's for a reason that you most likely don't know yet. if she doesn't understand your side of the story, i would say just let it pass and get on with your life and do other things with her.

and of course, you still should've tipped the delivery man.
