How do you setthis up into an equation:
Sharin and 5 friends are going out to dinner. They split 2 pizzas and 6 large drinks. The pizza cost $13.55. After using a $10 coupon, they spend a toatl of $21.70.
Write and equation to model this situation, and find the cost of one large drink.How to set up in eaquation? Algebra 1?
first thing that is ambiguous is if both pizzas cost 13.55 (case 1) or if they are 13.55 (case 2) each
we'll make the drinks a variable called D
pizza is a variable called P
coupon we'll call C
lets write out what they told us just with words
6 drinks+2 pizzas-1 coupon=total spent
now we have to incorporate common sense. if they used a coupon that doesn't count for what they spent that is why I used a minus sign.
lets fix our equation
6 drinks+2 pizzas=total spent+coupon
lets put in numbers and variables now
6D+2P=21.70+10
6D+2(13.55)=31.70
now, if by the pizza costing 13.55 means total this changes things a bit
2P=13.55 so P=13.55/2 and you can input that into your above equation and see that the twos cancel. what we have anyway is
6D+13.55=31.75
I'll leave the rest to you
can you save a piece for me?How to set up in eaquation? Algebra 1?
$13.55 * 2 = _______ - $10.00 = $21.70.

hey im in algebrea 1 too,im in da 8th grade go to classzone.com
if u have mcdogle lintal books

(2 times 13.55)+(6 times x)-10=21.70
solve for x
your unknown is the price of the drink, so it is x. Since there were 6 of them it's 6x
pizza=$13.55
coupon=$10
total=$21.70
so 13.55 + 6x -10=21.70
$27.10 (pizza) +6d (drinks)-$10 (coupon)=$21.70
let the cost of one drink be y
total spent = (2 x cost of pizza + 6 x cost of drink ) - price of coupon
$21.70 = (2 x 13.55) + 6y - $10
21.7 = 6y + 27.1 - 10
21.7 - 17.1 = 6y
y = 4.6 / 6
= 0.77
therefor cost of one drink is 77cents
put in Algebra on yahoo.com
2p + 6d = 21.70 + 10
2(13.55) + 6d = 31.70
6d = 4.6
d = $.77
Ok the basic fomula is y=mx+b. m is the rate, or amount per something, and the b is the starting point. y is your answer to you would put 21.70=6x+13.55 . You solve for x and get how much the drinks cost. Hope I helped, my brother is having the same problem. Oh, yeah, and take 10 off
6x + 13.55 = 21.70
You subtract the 13.55 from the 21.70 then divide by 6!
At least im pretty sure thats the equation. Im in Algebra . I should know this.
first multiply 13.55 by 2 (because there were 2 pizzas)= 27.10. Than subtract 10.... because ten bucks wer subtracted from total. = 17.1 now we set up an equation
drinks=x
17.1 + 6x=21.7
-17.1 -17.1 Subtract 17.1 from both sides
6x=4.6 divide both sides by six
1 drink=.7666666666666666666666666666666
13.55+6d-10=21.7
3.55+6d=21.7
6d=18.15
d=$3.03
each drink is about $3.03
13.55+x-10=21.70
13.55+x-10+10=21.70+10
13.55-13.55+x=31.70-13.55
x=18.15/6
x=$3.03
im not sure about this but i think its right.
ok, so to find out how much the large drink costs, subtract 21.70 from 13.55, which is 8.15, then divide by six, which is about 1.36 for a large drink.
the equation might go something like this:
6(1.36)+ 13.55/6
when you work it out you get that they would have to pay about 3.62 each.
hope i helped!!
ok so this is what i think it can be...
21.70-13.55/6=x [x=1.35]
